James' "Powers of the Pentacle"

Published in Different Worlds, Issue 47 * Fall 1987

I've written several peices of fiction of one sort or another: short stories, scripts for Star Trek: The Next Generation, bits of novels, and some really bad poetry. I've submitted all my short stories and ST:TNG scripts for publication (to several different magazines, as it turns out) and production, respectively. Alas, to date, none have been. I do, however, have my name (in alphabetical order, thank you very much), on four profesional papers.

But this article, which I wrote when I was a senior in High School, and which took two years, two owners of the magazine, and two editors to get published, is the only piece of writing I've ever been paid for. I was paid exactly $60.00, and you know what? I'm proud of this article to this day.
